There is no universal large
How many slices in a large pizza depends on the shop. Some cut a large into 8. Some cut it into 6 wide slices. Some call a 16-inch pie a large and a different diameter something else. A number from a chain menu will not match a neighborhood counter. If you are feeding people, read the menu of the shop you are actually calling.
At Brooklyn's Finest Pizza, the classic round cheese pizza lists the cuts in the item itself. Personal is 6 slices at $11.99. Medium is 6 slices at $17.49. Large is 8 slices at $19.49. Extra-large is also listed as 8 slices, at $21.49. The large and the extra-large are different prices with the same slice count on the menu. Order the size by name, not by assuming extra-large means more slices.
Specialty pies and squares
Specialty large pies on our menu say large, 8 slices. That includes the Hawaiian, the buffalo chicken pizza, the hot honey roni, and the cheesesteak pizza. A Sicilian cheese pizza is a large with 8 slices, at $23.99. Grandma's with fresh mozzarella is a large with 8 slices, at $24.99. Those are square pies. The slice count matches the round large. The shape does not.
A cheese slice sold on its own is $2.99. That is a separate item, pizza by the slice. Do not divide $19.49 by 8 and expect the slice price to match. The slice has its own price. A gluten-free cheese pizza is a personal 10-inch with 6 slices, at $13.49. It is not a large. Cauliflower crust pies on the list are personal 10-inch pies with 6 slices too.
How to use 8 slices
Eight slices is one large. Two adults who are hungry may finish it. Two adults and a child may finish it. A table of four usually wants a second pie or a hero beside it. A common planning guess is two to three slices a person, which would make one large enough for about three people and not enough for eight. That guess is not a rule. Teenagers and a light lunch are different problems. When the count gets to 20 people, do the math in pies, not in hope. One large is 8 slices, so 20 people at two slices each is five larges before anyone asks for a second round.
Square slices eat differently. A Sicilian square is thicker. People often take fewer of them. If the group has not had our square before, order one Sicilian and one round instead of five Sicilians. The grandma versus Sicilian post is the difference between the two squares.
Party math without a fake chart
Write the head count. Decide if everyone eats pizza or if some people want heroes or pasta. Give the pizza eaters two slices as a start, then add pies if you know the group. Our large is 8, so the number of larges is the slice count divided by 8, rounded up. Add one pie rather than rounding down. Trays are the other tool when the food is not pizza. A half tray serves 6–9 and a full tray serves 10–15. Those counts are on the catering page. They are not slice counts.
Prices move. The $19.49 large is the menu price to check in the cart. Toppings change a build-your-own. A named specialty large has its own price, still at 8 slices. Do not assume every 8-slice pie costs $19.49.
Order the size by the words on the menu
Order at Order Online, which is order.brooklynsfinestsi.com, or call (718) 815-7070. On an iPhone or iPad, the app sends the same menu. The shop is at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305. Say large if you want the 8-slice round at the cheese price. Say extra-large if you want that line. Say Sicilian or grandma if you want a square. Say slice if you want one piece.
How many slices in a large pizza, here, is 8. That is the menu. It is not a promise about the shop down the block. If you are comparing sizes, compare diameters and slice counts on each menu, then order. Hours go to 10:00 PM, or 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Delivery is within 4 miles. A large is still 8 slices whether it is pickup or delivery.
When you call, use the size word and the slice count together if the order is for a crowd: two larges, eight slices each. Say whether any of them are Sicilian. A build-your-own starts from the cheese pie and adds toppings the menu allows, and it is still the size you named. A specialty large keeps its own name and its own price at the same 8 slices. If someone in the group only eats one slice, the rest of the pie is still coming. Order the number of pies the hungry people need, not the number that looks tidy in a text message. Eight slices is the large. Write it down before you call so the order matches the head count.
