A section name, and a style

Brooklyn style pizza

What people mean by the phrase, and which pies sit in that section of our menu.

· Brooklyn's Finest

The phrase is bigger than one pie

Brooklyn style pizza gets used for a round New York pie with a foldable slice, and sometimes for a pie that is a little thicker than a cracker-thin Manhattan slice. Shops in Brooklyn do not all agree. Some mean a large round with a puffy rim. Some mean the whole neighborhood way of selling slices. There is no office that certifies the phrase. If a menu uses it, read the pies under the heading instead of arguing with the heading.

On our menu the heading is Brooklyn Style Pizza. Under it: a classic round cheese pizza, a gluten-free cheese pizza, a whole wheat pan cheese pizza, a thick crust Sicilian, and grandma's with fresh mozzarella. The round large is 8 slices at $19.49. Personal and medium rounds are 6 slices. The Sicilian and the grandma are larges with 8 slices. The section is those pies. It is not a secret thicker dough we failed to describe.

Round, square, and the names

Order the classic round when you want the foldable cheese pie. Order Sicilian when you want the thick square. Order grandma's when you want the thinner square with fresh mozzarella in the name. The grandma versus Sicilian post is that difference. Specialty larges, the ones with toppings already chosen, live in the next section, not inside this heading. A Hawaiian or a hot honey roni is a specialty large. It is still a round pie. It is just not filed under the plain heading.

Gluten-free in this section is a personal 10-inch cheese pie, 6 slices, $13.49. It is not a large Brooklyn round. Whole wheat pan is a personal, $10.99. Say the crust if it matters. Cauliflower crust is a different section, and any pie can be made on it, with soy cheese available. That note is on the menu. It is not the same as the gluten-free cheese pizza.

Staten Island, not a Brooklyn storefront

The shop is named Brooklyn's Finest and it sits in Staten Island, at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305, since 2012. We do not have a shop in Brooklyn. The style on the menu is the pizza. The borough on the door is Staten Island. A search for Brooklyn style pizza can land here because of the name and the pies. It should not land here if you need a counter on 86th Street in Bensonhurst. Those heroes on our menu are named for Brooklyn neighborhoods. The kitchen that makes them is on Hylan Boulevard.

We will not rank Brooklyn pizzerias, and we will not claim the phrase as a trademark. Eat a plain slice and decide if the dough is what you wanted. A cheese slice is $2.99. A large is 8 slices. That is a better test than a definition.

Order from the heading

Order at Order Online, which is order.brooklynsfinestsi.com, or call (718) 815-7070. On an iPhone or iPad, the app sends the same menu. Hours run until 10:00 PM, and until 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Pickup, the dining room, or delivery inside 4 miles. Say round, Sicilian, or grandma so the bag matches the argument you were having.

Brooklyn style pizza, on this menu, is the section with the round cheese pie and the two squares. The rest of the kitchen is heroes, pasta, and specialty pies. Come to 1250 Hylan Boulevard for the plain pie if that is the one you meant. The New York style page is the round slice in more detail. The slice-count post is the number 8, if the number was the question.

A first visit should start with the plain large or a single slice, so you are tasting dough and sauce and not a topping argument. The slice is $2.99. The large is $19.49 for 8 slices. If the plain pie is what you wanted, order a second. If you wanted a square, switch to Sicilian or grandma on the next round instead of asking the round pie to become thick. Specialty pies are available the same night. They are filed separately because the toppings are the point. A hot honey roni is not a plainer Brooklyn pie with a drizzle you forgot to mention. It is its own name.

The heroes named for Brooklyn neighborhoods are sandwiches, not a claim that we bake in those neighborhoods. Chicken parm, meatball, and the long list are made at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305. If the search was only about the word Brooklyn, the pizza section and the hero list are both real, and they are both here. Delivery is still 4 miles from this door, not from Brooklyn. Pickup does not care which borough you drove from. Sit down if you want the slice while it is hot. We have been on Hylan since 2012. That is the shop. The style is the pies under that heading, sold by the names printed next to them. Order the plain large when you want the argument settled by a slice you can fold. Order a square when you want the pan pie. Say the words out loud. Brooklyn style, on this menu, is a heading with five pies under it, not a secret recipe and not a shop in Brooklyn. The address is Staten Island. The dough is what you came to taste. Start there.
