A cookie in batter
Fried Oreos are sandwich cookies dipped in batter and fried until the outside is crisp and the cookie inside softens. Fairs made them famous. Pizzerias picked them up because the fryer was already hot. They are sweet, rich, and small. They are a dessert for the table, not a meal, and they are not a health food. Anyone selling them as anything else is writing a different article.
At Brooklyn's Finest Pizza the menu says Fried Oreo, $6.99, fluffy and golden-brown on the outside, warm and melty Oreo on the inside. That is the shop's sentence. We are not adding ice cream, a sauce, or a count of cookies the menu does not print. If you need to know how many cookies are in the order, ask (718) 815-7070. Do not guess from a fair photo.
The rest of the sweet list
The dessert list is short. Cannoli are $4.99. Zeppole are $3.99. Fried Twinkies are $5.00. Juniors cheesecake is $7.49. Fried Oreos sit in that group. An egg cream is a drink, not a fried cookie. If the table wants one sweet thing, pick one. If you want two, add two. They do not come as a combo on this menu.
Zeppole also show up in the catering special, which includes knots and zeppoles with the trays. That is a different order from a $6.99 fried Oreo at the counter. Read the specials page if you want the bundle. Order the Oreo if you want the Oreo. Do not put a coupon on the special.
A home fryer is not our fryer
At home, people mix a pancake-style batter, dip the cookies, and fry them in oil until the batter sets. The cookie gets hot fast. Oil temperature matters, and hot oil is a real burn risk. This post is not a step-by-step from our kitchen, and it is not an invitation to improvise with a pot if you do not already fry safely. Buy the dessert if the fryer is the part you wanted to skip.
They are best the minute they come out. A fried cookie that rides across the island goes soft. Eat them at the shop, or eat them in the car on a short pickup. Reheating is a worse plan than ordering them when you are ready to eat them.
Order the dessert you named
Order at Order Online, which is order.brooklynsfinestsi.com, or call (718) 815-7070. On an iPhone or iPad, the app sends the same menu. The address is 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305. Hours run until 10:00 PM, and until 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Desserts can ride with a pie. Delivery is inside 4 miles, confirmed at checkout. A fried Oreo is a small add-on, not a reason to send a driver by itself unless that is really the order.
Fried Oreos here are the $6.99 dessert in the menu's own words: golden outside, warm Oreo inside. Cannoli and zeppole are the Italian sweets next to it. Twinkies are the other fried candy. Pick one, add it to the pie, and skip any fair recipe that pretends to be ours. The menu is the list. The counter will hand you the one you named.
Add the dessert when you order the meal, not as an afterthought when you are already in the car. A fried cookie wants to be eaten while the batter is still crisp. If you are sitting in the dining room, that is the right moment. If you are picking up a pie for the house, eat the Oreos on the way or as soon as you walk in. They are a poor leftover. Cannoli hold a little better because the shell is already crisp and the filling is cold. Zeppole are fried dough without a cookie inside, lighter and still best hot. Choose based on who is eating. A kid who wants the cookie should get the cookie. An adult who wants the Italian sweet should get the cannoli. Both can be on one ticket.
We will not call this a fair food stand. It is one line on a pizzeria dessert list, $6.99, at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305. There is no combo with a slice, no price that includes a soda, and no season when we suddenly fry them differently. Ask the counter if you need a count of cookies before you promise a birthday table a pile. Then order that number, or order the zeppole if a pile of small fried dough is what you actually needed. The specials that include zeppoles are printed on the specials page. The Oreo is not hiding inside those flyers unless the flyer names it. Read the words. Pay for the dessert you can point at. If the birthday wants a pile, ask how the $6.99 order is portioned before you promise a cookie to every guest. One order may be a few cookies, not a tray. The counter can tell you. A zeppole order is the better pile when you need a lot of small fried dough. The Oreo is the better order when the cookie is the point. Both are desserts. Neither one is included with a pie. Add them on purpose, eat them hot, and leave the fair recipe at the fair. The shop version is the menu line, golden on the outside, warm on the inside, $6.99, at the Hylan Boulevard counter.
