Knots are pizza dough
Garlic knots are strips of pizza dough tied into knots, baked, and tossed with butter, garlic, and something green, usually parsley. They are the cheapest thing on a lot of pizzeria tickets because the dough is already there. A good one is browned at the knot, glossy, and salty. A bad one is a pale roll with garlic powder. You can tell by looking.
Our menu describes them in those words: strips of pizza dough tied in a knot, baked, and then topped with melted butter, garlic, and parsley. The price is $3.99. That is the item. We are not adding cheese inside the knot or a parm coating the menu does not name. Marinara on the side is a separate dipping sauce if you want it on the ticket.
Why they are on so many orders
Knots show up because a pie is not always enough of a start, and because a table can share them while the pizza is still being cut. They also show up on the NFL and weekend specials, bundled with pies and wings. Those bundles have their own prices on the specials page. A $3.99 side is the regular order. The bundle is the flyer. Do not add a coupon to the flyer, and do not expect the side price to be the bundle price.
The catering special includes 18 garlic knots and 18 zeppoles with the trays. That count is printed on the flyer. A regular knot order is not 18 unless you ordered that many. Read the line you are paying for.
They are still bread
Knots are wheat. They are not a gluten-free side. The gluten-free item on the menu is a personal cheese pizza and, separately, gluten-free pasta. Do not swap knots in for a guest who cannot eat wheat. Call (718) 815-7070 if you need to know what else could go on that plate. A salad is the obvious cold option. It is not a knot.
Leftover knots harden. A few minutes in a hot oven brings the butter back better than a microwave. That is leftover advice, not a shop process. They are cheap enough that ordering them when you are ready to eat them is the better plan.
Add them, or don't
Order at Order Online, which is order.brooklynsfinestsi.com, or call (718) 815-7070. On an iPhone or iPad, the app sends the same menu. The shop is at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10305. Hours run until 10:00 PM, and until 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Knots can go with a slice, a large, or a hero. Delivery inside 4 miles includes them if checkout accepts the address. One order of knots is a side. A party that wants a pile should say how many, or use the catering special that already counts 18.
Garlic knots here are $3.99, dough, butter, garlic, and parsley, baked. They are the side Staten Island already knows. Order them by that name, next to the pie, and skip any recipe that stuffs them with cheese we did not list. The menu has the line. The specials page has the bundles. Those are two different tickets.
One order is the right add for a couple sharing a pie. A table of four often wants two. A party that wants knots on every plate should look at the catering special, which counts 18 knots, instead of guessing how many $3.99 orders that is. Say the number when you call so the knots are ready with the pies and not ten minutes later. They are wheat, butter, and garlic. Tell anyone who avoids those before you put knots in the center of the table. A salad is the swap. A gluten-free pie is the swap for the pizza, not for the knots. Those are different orders, and both can be on the same ticket if the group is mixed.
Eat them hot. The butter and garlic are the point, and both calm down as the knot cools. If you are driving, eat a knot in the car only if you can spare a napkin. The rest can sit with the pie and go into a hot oven for a few minutes later, the same idea as reheating a slice. Do not microwave a pile of them into a single wad. And do not expect the $3.99 side to include a cup of sauce unless you added the dipping sauce. Marinara is its own line. Order it if you want something to drag the knot through. Otherwise the butter on the knot is the finish. They are the cheapest shared item on a lot of tickets, and they are still a real order. Say how many. Eat them first, while the garlic is loud. A pie can wait a minute. A cold knot cannot be argued back to life as well as a slice can. If the specials flyer already includes knots, do not add a second order unless you counted and you still want more. Eighteen knots in a catering bundle is a different pile from one $3.99 side. Read which ticket you are on before you pay.
