A slice you can fold
A New York slice is a wedge of a round pie, wide enough to fold, with a rim, tomato sauce, and mozzarella. The fold is the test people use. The tip should not fall off in the first second. The underside should be cooked. The cheese should be melted into the sauce, not sitting on top like a cold blanket. That is the idea. It is not a square, and it is not a personal pan pie.
Shops cut differently. Some larges are 8 slices. Some are 6 wide ones. At Brooklyn's Finest Pizza the large round cheese pie is 8 slices at $19.49. A cheese slice sold by itself is $2.99.
